Lebanese citizens need a Schengen visa to enter Europe, and UAE residence does not change that requirement. A Lebanese passport holder living in Dubai or Abu Dhabi applies for a Schengen visa from the UAE — not from Lebanon — and the application is assessed by the consulate of the Schengen state that serves as the main destination. The process involves a €90 fee, a standard document set, and an appointment at a visa application centre in the UAE.
Quick summary
Lebanese passport holders require a Schengen Type C visa for short stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. A valid UAE residence visa and Emirates ID allow you to apply in Dubai or Abu Dhabi rather than Beirut. The visa fee is €90 per adult. Apply six to eight weeks before travel. A stable UAE job, salary and tenancy strengthen the application. No agency can guarantee a visa decision — the consulate decides.

Do Lebanese citizens need a Schengen visa?
Lebanese citizens need a Schengen visa. The visa is a Schengen Type C, short stay, permitting a maximum of 90 days in any 180-day period for tourism, business or family visits. The same visa requirement applies to all Schengen states. No Schengen country exempts Lebanese passport holders.
What your UAE residence changes — and what it does not
A UAE residence visa determines where you apply, not whether you need a visa. Nationality decides the visa requirement. Residence decides the consulate. A Lebanese national living in Dubai or Abu Dhabi with a valid UAE residence visa and Emirates ID applies through the consulate of the main destination Schengen state in the UAE. A Lebanese national without UAE residence applies in Lebanon.
A stable UAE employment history, salary certificate, tenancy contract and local bank statements create a document set that demonstrates ties to the UAE and capacity to cover travel costs. The consulate assessing a UAE-based application sees UAE evidence, not Lebanese evidence. That is about procedure, not about your chances.
Which Schengen country should you apply to?
The main destination rule determines which consulate accepts your application. You apply to the Schengen state where you will spend the most nights. Or you apply to a country depending on the purpose of your trip. Where nights are equal across states, you apply to the state of first entry. Applying to the wrong consulate gives the ground to not examine the application. Consulates check the itinerary against the rule.
Applying for a multi-country trip
A five-night trip to France, four nights in Belgium and three nights in the Netherlands means France is the main destination — the applicant applies at the French consulate. A four-night stay in Germany and four nights in Austria with equal night counts means the applicant applies to the state of first entry. If the first entry is Germany, the German consulate accepts the file.

Documents for a Schengen visa for UAE residents
The core document set for a Lebanese applicant applying from the UAE includes:
- Passport — issued within the last 10 years, valid at least 3 months beyond the intended departure from Schengen, with 2 blank pages.
- UAE residence visa and Emirates ID — both valid. Most consulates require residence validity of at least 3 months beyond the return date, verify with the consulate concerned.
- Completed application form — signed and consistent with all supporting documents.
- Photograph — recent, ICAO-compliant.
- Travel medical insurance — minimum €30000 coverage across all Schengen states, valid for the full trip.
- Flight and accommodation reservations — refundable or verifiable bookings.
- Bank statements — typically 6 months of UAE bank statements showing salary credits and a balance consistent with the trip.
- Employment evidence — salary certificate, employment letter, or trade licence for business owners.
Documents Lebanese applicants are commonly asked for on top of the core set
- Tenancy contract — evidence of UAE residence stability.
- Employer NOC — confirming approved leave dates that match the itinerary.
- Salary certificate — showing consistent income.
- 6 months of UAE bank statements — with salary credits visible.
- Explanation of assets held in Lebanon — if income or assets sit partly in Lebanon, present that alongside UAE evidence rather than instead of it. The UAE evidence remains the primary set.

Umer, visa expert at The Visa Services:
“In Dubai the appointment is not the hard part — the wait for the slot is. In peak season, busier consulates can run three to four weeks for an appointment, while quieter ones may open up within a week. Do not book flights until the slot is confirmed. On the day, expect thirty to seventy minutes: security check, then reception, document submission, payment and biometrics.”

How to apply for a Schengen visa from the UAE, step by step
Step 1. Confirm the correct consulate. Identify the Schengen state of the main destination using the night’s rule. Do not choose a consulate based on appointment availability — that is a refusal ground.
Step 2. Complete the application form. Fill in the official form for the Schengen state concerned. Ensure every detail matches your passport and supporting documents exactly.
Step 3. Book the appointment. Book at the visa application centre serving the correct consulate. Appointment wait times run 1 to 4 weeks in peak season. Book early.
Step 4. Assemble the document set. Collect passport, UAE residence visa and Emirates ID, photographs, insurance, flight and hotel reservations, bank statements and employment evidence.
Step 5. Attend the appointment and give biometrics. Fingerprints and a facial image are collected in person. You cannot delegate this step. Previously enrolled biometrics may be reusable for 59 months.
Step 6. Pay the fee. The visa fee is €90 for adults. The fee is non-refundable even if the visa is refused.
Step 7. Track the application. Processing takes 15 calendar days standard, up to 45 days where checks extend. Do not book non-refundable travel until the visa is issued.
Step 8. Collect the passport. Collect the passport with the decision from the visa application centre.

Where to apply in Dubai and Abu Dhabi
Schengen consulates in the UAE are split between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The consulate of your main destination state determines which emirate serves your application. Appointment logistics differ by consulate. Peak season — June through September and December — fills slots quickly. Book the appointment as soon as your travel dates are confirmed.
Applying from the UAE compared with applying in Lebanon
A Lebanese national resident in the UAE must apply in the UAE, not in Lebanon. The procedural differences between the two locations are substantial.
| Procedural factor | Applying from the UAE | Applying from Lebanon |
| Consulate handling the file | Schengen consulate in the UAE | Schengen consulate in Beirut |
| Financial evidence | UAE salary certificate, UAE bank statements | Lebanese bank statements, employment evidence |
| Appointment logistics | Visa application centres in Dubai or Abu Dhabi | Visa application centre in Beirut |
| Document language | Arabic documents with certified English translations | Arabic documents with certified English translations |
| Who may apply | UAE residents with valid residence visa | Lebanese residents in Lebanon |
The consulate decides each application on its own evidence.
Dual nationality
A Lebanese national who also holds a visa-exempt passport should check which travel document to use. A visa-exempt passport can remove the Schengen visa requirement entirely. The same travel document must be used consistently for the booking, the application and the border. Frame this as a point to check, not as advice on which nationality to declare.

EES, ETIAS and what changed in 2026
The EU Entry/Exit System became fully operational on 10 April 2026. It replaced passport stamping with a biometric record at the border — facial image, fingerprints and travel document data are collected on entry and exit. Overstays are logged automatically. The 90/180-day calculation is now recorded precisely at every crossing.
ETIAS is for visa-exempt nationals only. It does not apply to Lebanese passport holders. ETIAS is not an alternative to a Schengen visa. ETIAS is expected to start operations in the last quarter of 2026.
Why applications are refused — and how to avoid it
- Wrong consulate. Applying to a state that is not the main destination. Fix: apply to the consulate of the state where you will spend the most nights.
- Thin or inconsistent financial evidence. Fix: present 6 months of UAE bank statements showing regular salary credits.
- Insurance below the minimum. Fix: travel medical insurance with at least €30,000 coverage across all Schengen states.
- Unclear purpose of travel. Fix: ensure flight and hotel reservations match the stated itinerary and leave dates.
- Weak ties to the UAE. Fix: provide tenancy contract, salary certificate, employer NOC and long-term residence evidence.
- Applying too late. Fix: apply 6 to 8 weeks before departure, and no later than 15 calendar days before.

Can Lebanese citizens apply for a Schengen visa from Dubai?
Yes. A Lebanese national holding a valid UAE residence visa and Emirates ID applies through the Schengen consulate in the UAE that covers the main destination. The application is submitted at a visa application centre in Dubai or Abu Dhabi.
Do Lebanese citizens need a transit visa for the Schengen Area?
Lebanese citizens need an airport transit visa (Type A) when connecting through a Schengen airport. The requirement applies to journeys that change flights inside the international transit area of a Schengen airport where the final destination is a non-Schengen country.
Is it easier to get a Schengen visa from the UAE than from Lebanon?
The consulate decides each application. The procedural difference is that a UAE-based application presents UAE financial and employment evidence, while a Beirut application presents Lebanese evidence. No outcome comparison applies.
What documents do Lebanese citizens need for a Schengen visa?
The core set is passport, UAE residence visa and Emirates ID, application form, photograph, travel medical insurance, flight and hotel reservations, bank statements and employment evidence.
Which passport should a Lebanese dual national travel on?
A Lebanese national who also holds a visa-exempt passport should check which travel document to use. The visa-exempt passport can remove the visa requirement, but the same document must be used for the booking, application and border.
How long does a Schengen visa take from the UAE?
Standard processing is 15 calendar days from the date the consulate receives an admissible application. It can extend to 45 calendar days where further checks are needed.
Can I choose to apply for a Schengen visa in Lebanon instead of the UAE?
No. A UAE resident must apply in the UAE through the consulate of the main destination. A Lebanese national cannot choose to file in Beirut while residing in the UAE.
Which Schengen country should I apply to for a multi-country trip?
Apply to the Schengen state where you will spend the most nights or depending on the purpose of your trip. Where nights are equal, apply to the state of first entry.
