Milan Fashion Week 2026: a UAE visitor’s guide to the city and shopping 

The event is organised by Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (CNMI), the National Chamber of Italian Fashion. Around 60 shows are scheduled in the programme, of which 54 will take place in person and 6 in digital format.

The fashion week opens with Prada, with the show planned for 22 September. Among the season’s main novelties are the debut of Moschino’s new creative directors, the duo Loris Messina and Simone Rizzo, as well as the first shows by Portuguese brands Marques’Almeida and Miguel Vieira, Mexican Neithan Herbert, and Victor-Hart.

Traditionally, the week closes with the Giorgio Armani show on Sunday, followed by digital shows on Monday.

Can you actually attend the shows?

Milan Fashion Week runway shows are closed events for industry professionals. Tickets are not available for public sale. Access is granted to accredited journalists, buyers, celebrities, and clients of fashion houses.

Do not trust offers to “get into a show for money” — in most cases, these are either scams or unofficial side events. But that does not mean a visitor to the city will be left without experiences.

Fashion-week events open to visitors

The main public event is Vogue World: Milano. It takes place on the first day of the week, 22 September, at the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II — the historic glass-covered gallery in the heart of Milan, between the Duomo and La Scala. The evening’s theme is “Where the Future Is Made by Hand”, celebrating Italian craftsmanship and artisanship in the age of technology. The show will be streamed online on Vogue.com.

In addition, during Fashion Week, the city hosts:

CNMI Fashion Hub at Palazzo Morando — an exhibition of young designers, special projects, and live screenings of the shows on a big screen. Entry is free.

Pop-up shops and temporary brand boutiques — many are open to all.

Street style — one of the main attractions. In the Quadrilatero area and at the entrance to the Galleria, you can see some of the most stylishly dressed people in the world. This is a great opportunity to get inspired and even catch the lenses of street photographers.

Milan shopping guide: the Quadrilatero della Moda

If you are coming for shopping, Milan will not disappoint. The main destination is the Quadrilatero della Moda (the Fashion Quadrilateral). This district is bounded by Via Montenapoleone, Via Manzoni, Via della Spiga, and Corso Venezia. It is home to flagship boutiques of all luxury houses.

In 2024, Via Montenapoleone overtook Fifth Avenue in New York in terms of rental value and became the most expensive shopping street in the world. Shopping here is not just about purchases — it is part of Milanese culture. Even if you are not planning major expenses, a stroll along these streets is worthwhile for the atmosphere and the window displays.

Beyond luxury: outlets, vintage and mid-range

The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is another iconic spot. It houses boutiques of Prada, Gucci, and other brands, as well as historic cafés.

Luxury is not the only option. Outside the city, there are major outlets:

Serravalle Designer Outlet — one of the largest in Europe. About an hour’s drive from Milan, with over 200 boutiques offering discounts of 30–70% year-round.

Fidenza Village — an outlet village between Milan and Bologna. Over 130 boutiques, discounts up to 70%, and a good gastronomic area.

Within the city, consider:

Corso Buenos Aires — one of the longest shopping streets in Europe. Mid-range clothing and authentic Italian brands.

The areas around Brera and Navigli — here you will find many vintage and second-hand shops where you can discover unique pieces, if that appeals to you.

Tax-free shopping and how it works

As a non-EU resident, you are entitled to a VAT (Value Added Tax) refund when exporting goods from Europe. From 1 July 2026, a simplified invoice validation procedure is in effect in Italy.

The minimum purchase amount in a single store for tax-free processing is €70 (VAT included). The refund can be collected at the airport before departure. Keep all your receipts and ask the store for a special tax-free form.

Getting there, where to stay and when to book

Flights

You can fly direct from Dubai (DXB) to Milan with several airlines. For example, the daytime flight FZ1571 by flydubai departs Dubai at 13:40 and arrives at Bergamo Airport (BGY) at 22:40, with a flight time of about 7 hours.

Milan is served by three airports:

• MXP (Malpensa) — the main international airport, the largest.
• LIN (Linate) — closest to the city centre, handling European flights.
• BGY (Bergamo) — popular with low-cost carriers.

From the airports, you can reach the city by train (Malpensa Express), bus, taxi, or transfer.

Visa

UAE nationals can stay in Italy without a visa for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. UAE residents holding passports from countries that require a visa need to apply for a Schengen visa in advance. We can assist with this — more details at the end of the article.

Where to stay in Milan: neighbourhoods and hotels

The choice of area depends on your plans. For Fashion Week, it is most convenient to stay in or near the centre.

• Quadrilatero (Gold Square) — within walking distance of boutiques, the Galleria, and key events. Hotels here are premium.
• Brera — a characterful district with art galleries, vintage shops, and good restaurants. Close to the centre but slightly quieter. One of the area’s best hotels is Palazzo Parigi Hotel & Grand Spa, awarded one MICHELIN star.
• Porta Nuova / Garibaldi — a modern business district with skyscrapers, new hotels, and excellent transport links.

Milan Fashion Week is an event that significantly increases demand for hotels, flights, and visa slots. Accommodation prices can rise by 2–3 times above standard rates. It is best to book accommodation 3–6 months in advance.

The most spectacular shows are closed to the general public, but the city’s atmosphere, pop-up shops, street style, and public events like Vogue World: Milano make this a unique time to visit.
