Summer Olympic Games 2024: from Dubai to Paris

This year the Olympic Games are returning to Europe and will be held in France for the first time in the last 100 years. Thanks to the introduction of new sports, including skateboarding, as well as global online ticket sales, the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris promise to be the most inclusive in recent years. Furthermore, these will be the first Games in which male and female athletes will be represented in equal proportion.

The opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics 2024 will take place on the evening of July 26. The competitions, however, will start on July 24 and end on August 11. After that, the Paralympic Games will take over, scheduled to be held from August 28 to September 8.

The opening ceremony of the Olympic Games 2024 will take place along the River Seine. As for the opening of the Paralympic Games, it will be held in the lower part of the Champs-Élysées and Place de la Concorde. The main competitions of the 2024 Olympic Games will take place in Paris, but the games will also involve neighboring departments: Yvelines, Seine-et-Marne, Hauts-de-Seine and Seine-Saint-Denis.

Equestrian sports and road cycling will start in Versailles; football tournaments will be held in stadiums in Bordeaux, Nantes, Lyon, Saint-Étienne, Nice and Marseille. Sailing enthusiasts will be greeted in Marseille, while surfing lovers should head to French Polynesia, to Tahiti. It is the most remote location from the host city in the history of the games, but it is definitely worth the trip to see the athletes competing on the waves.

The largest stadium in France, Stade de France, located in the Saint-Denis district, will host athletics and rugby competitions. And in the nearby Center of Aquatic Sports, spectators will be able to watch swimming competitions.

Other locations for competitions will include the Invalides (archery), Grand Palais (fencing), La Défense (climbing), Palace of Versailles (equestrian sports and pentathlon). You can cheer for cyclists at the National Velodrome in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, about 25 km from the center of Paris.

Judo and wrestling competitions will take place at the “Mars Field” arena, and handball and basketball will be held at the “Pierre Mauroy” Stadium in Lille. By the way, both Lille and Paris will host competitions as part of the 2024 Paralympic Games.

What to consider when planning a trip to the Olympic Games in France
