At the same time, you can plan your trip so that you fly into Switzerland, spend a few days there, and then head to Courchevel. ## How to get from the UAE to Courchevel: Geneva, Lyon or Chambéry

 

There are no direct flights to Courchevel itself: the altiport accepts only light aircraft and helicopters. From the UAE there are direct flights to Geneva and Lyon. Geneva is the main option: Emirates flies from Dubai twice a day, Etihad — from Abu Dhabi. Lyon accepts Emirates once a day. Chambéry is closer to the resort, but there are no direct flights from the UAE there.

## Entering through Geneva on a French visa

 

Switzerland is part of the Schengen area. A French Schengen visa is valid for entry through Geneva, transit and return departure from Geneva. A separate Swiss visa is not needed for this.

 

At the border, the purpose of the trip may be checked: booking of accommodation in Courchevel, return ticket, insurance. From 10 April 2026, EES operates at the Schengen border: on first entry, fingerprints and a photo are taken. The status of EES on the date of travel should be checked on the official EU portal.

1. Count the nights according to the booking and determine the country of the main destination. If all nights are in France — apply to France.
2. Fill out the form on [france-visas.gouv.fr](https://france-visas.gouv.fr/).
3. Book an appointment at the visa application centre. Residents of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the northern emirates apply through the visa application centre in Abu Dhabi. The French consulate in Dubai has not accepted visa documents since 2019.
4. Collect the documents according to the checklist above.
5. Come to the appointment in person to submit biometrics.
6. Wait for the decision. The standard period is 15 calendar days, in some cases up to 45.
7. Collect the passport with the visa.

All applications for a French visa from UAE residents are processed by the consular section in Abu Dhabi. Submission takes place through the visa application centre in Abu Dhabi. Residents of Dubai and the northern emirates also go there. Appointments open no earlier than 3 months before the trip; documents can be submitted no earlier than 6 months before the date of departure.

 

### When to apply before the ski season

 

Application window: no earlier than 6 months and no later than 15 calendar days before the trip. The standard processing period is 15 calendar days.

 

Before the New Year and the February holidays, slots at the visa application centre run out in advance. For a short stay, it is recommended to book at least 3 months before departure. If the trip is planned for the end of December, it is worth applying in September–October. Exact timing depends on the load of the centre in a particular period.
